On July 15, 2020 Baikal Communications Group and the Honorary Consulate of the Russian Federation in Porto, the Portuguese Republic (represented by the Honorary Consul Mr. Antonio Fernando Couto Dos Santos) concluded the Memorandum of Understanding on long-term cross-border cooperation.

The Parties agreed upon the enhancement of partnership, which is going to envisage:

– Collaborative Mediation for the purpose of facilitating the constructive dialogue with all the relevant companies of the Russian Federation and the Portuguese Republic respectively;

– Exchange of information, which is strategically relevant for the successful implementation of a number of joint international projects of Baikal Communications Group and the Honorary Consulate;

– Execution of consultations on the matter of common interests as well as collaborative networking.

Besides, given the active facilitation by the Honorary Consulate, the Memorandum incorporates the direct opportunity for Baikal Communications Group to be engaged in the sectoral business events in the territory of the Portuguese Republic.

“It is a great honour for us to arrange the official communication with the Honorary Consul of Russia in Portugal. As a matter of fact, the signed Memorandum of Understanding manifests the existing reality: Russia and Portugal have the common aspiration to the mutually beneficial trade and economic coexistence. What is more, Baikal Communications Group and the Honorary Consulate are positioned as an indispensable constituent of the complex large-scale trend towards the strengthening ties between two countries”, – asserted CEO and Managing Director of Baikal Communications Group Mr. Eduard Voytenko.

In his turn, Mr. Antonio Fernando Couto Dos Santos highlights the following point of view: “The local business community demonstrates the substantial interest to Russia. However, as I remember, penetration of the Portuguese companies into the market of the Russian Federation has always been associated with a number of formidable difficulties, which were caused by all the linguistic constraints, corporate concerns. Mainly, the corporate stalemate has been triggered by the absence of the trustworthy intermediary with capabilities to lay the foundation, aimed at alleviating the entry of the Portuguese business into the economic space of Russia. In this regard Baikal Communications Group deserves the high point attention – undoubtedly the company is going to become the reliable facilitator of the Portuguese firms in Russia and also to be the bridge for Russian business interest in local Portuguese communities”.

All the agreements have happened despite the current international isolation.

“It is noteworthy that we launched the successful start to our interaction within the today’s global economic stagnation due to the unpredictable and unstable global epidemiological situation. It is my firm hope that our constructive dialogue with the Honorary Consulate will be deepened and strengthened as well as taken forward to another high-quality level, hopefully, in the near future as soon as national borders reopen”, – underlined Mr. Eduard Voytenko.

Mr. Antonio Fernando Couto Dos Santos, the Honorary Consul of Russia in Portugal, is a citizen of the Portuguese Republic. He executes a number of separated consular functions on a freelance basis under the leadership and control of the diplomatic mission of Russia (Embassy).
