Climate discussions within the Alexander Gorchakov Fund

The International Communications, CSR Practice Director at Baikal Communications Group and CEO of the Lake Baikal Foundation Anastasia Tsvetkova was invited to take part in the panel session «Could international agreements «green» world politics?» The event was held within the framework of the XI «Dialogue in the name of the future», which took place in Moscow within the period November 28 – December 4, 2021.
Participants of the session (moderated by Anastasia Tsvetkova), among which were a number of cross-border experts – Lola Vallejo, Climate Programme Director at the Institute of Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI); Dhruba Purkayastha, India Director at the Climate Policy Initiative, and Igor Tomberg, Professor at the MGIMO Department of Applied International Analysis, discussed the outcomes of the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, expectations of experts, regarding the development of “green” politics and the food security implementation, as well as prospects of possible climate restrictions (after sanitary and epidemiological) for citizens of our planet.
While opening the discussion Anastasia Tsvetkova provided data from the review of global risks in 2021 from the World Economic Forum (WEF), where infection diseases were listed as the main global risk, followed by the failure of the international community to combat the climate change and other environmental challenges.
As for the national aspects of the agenda Anastasia Tsvetkova defined in detail the content of the Long-term Development Strategy with Low Greenhouse Gas Emissions up to 2050 and simultaneously presented arguments of business, regarding the readiness to participate in its implementation: the assessment touched upon the measures of incentivizing business on behalf of public authorities, the requirements, provided by international investors, as well as current challenges in the context of overcoming the consequences of the recent lockdown.
Within the session experts provided an outlook for the emergence of international «green» alliances as well as discussed approaches on «green transformation», which can be offered by Russia to the global community.
